12B (Titans) DIV 2
Sat 20th June: Tech Titans 6, Burnside B 2, Hansens Park
The Titans stormed into the lead at a sodden Hansens Park after a fantastic start to the game saw some classy moves from a motivated Tech side. Amos Taylor was on great form and got the opener as Burnside wilted under the early pressure.Burnside were not allowed into the game in the first half as fierce defending and fine passing in the midfield area helped create many chances for the on form strike force. Carey Poulsen added a fine strike and Amos completed his hat trick before the half time whistle to leave the Titans with a comfortable 4-1 lead.
The second half saw Burnside trying to produce a spirited comeback but with the score at 4-2 Titans opted to turn the screw and dominated the later period of the game with further strikes coming from Amos Taylor and a great goal converted by George Cox. This proved to be the Titans best display of the season so far and saw a fantastic, well disciplined performance from Rainer Pye in left midfield which saw him pick up POTD . Well done Rainer.
Sat 6th June: Tech Titans 4, Coastal Spirit 0, Hansens Park
Coastal Spirit arrived at Hansens Park 4 points clear of Titans but right from the first whistle to the last Tech dominated proceedings and they can be very pleased with their performance. All the early play was in the opposition half and an outstanding strike from the stylish Carey Poulsen soared into the net to give the home side a deserved lead. Titans confidence took a boost from this and they pinned the Coastal side deep into their own half as they searched for another goal. There was no shortage of chances as Sam O'Hara, George Cox and Ben Friel won every ball at the back giving the Titans almost constant possession. Jeremy Crossland's power in CM and the guile on both flanks of Rainer Pye and Jake Simpson meant more goals were certain to come and Jack Lewis continued his scoring run with a sublime finish that put Titans two goals up. The introduction of Joseph Tomkinson saw him slide a delightful through ball into fellow new arrival Amos Taylor who showed composure to slide a crisp finish under the keeper and into the net. On another day this would have meant three balls in the river before half time, thank goodness for the new goal nets!
The second half got under way with Titans guarding against a fight back from Spirit and they continued their great play and were unlucky not to finish the game off after a fantastic flowing move saw them pass the ball out of defence and involving five or six players they passed right through the Coastal Spirit team and fired a lovely shot at the Coastal goal. A truly beautiful move which had a marvellous essence of 'total football'. Michael Leavy helped to maintain the clean sheet after half time and goalkeeper Chris Atkinson showed great handling and positioning whenever called upon. Amos Taylor finished off the scoring in the second half but Tech looked like scoring every time they went foward and some great goalkeeping kept the score respectable.
A fantastic display from the Titans and they all produced POTD performances but the award went to GK Chris Atkinson who led the side from the back, commanding his area and defence to ensure he kept his second clean sheet of the season. Well done.
Sat 29th May: Tech Titans 11, Ferrymead Bays A 0, Redcliffs Park
Titans had a comprehensive victory over the struggling Bays side as the glorious weather seemed to galvanise the Titans to produce the high score line which they had been threatening all through the early part of this season. The score line suggests that it was all one way traffic towards the Bays goal this was because the early period of the match saw the Tech defence and midfield take control of the match and from here they dominated the bays giving them no time to settle or gain any momentum. The first clean sheet of the season for the miserly Titans defence has been as welcome as any of Saturday's eleven goals and sterling display's from full backs Michael Leavy and Ben Friel gave the Titans that solid defensive base as well as the required width to set up attacking play.
Hat tricks for attacking duo Taylor and Poulsen,a double from Lewis and fine individual efforts from Simpson, Tomkinson, and Cox saw Tech move into the top half of the table. With some wonder strikes in amongst these efforts it became almost impossible to single out any goal as being the best but the plaudits must go to Simpson and Tomkinson who gave the Bays keeper no hope with their spectacular efforts.
Well done Titans, this weeks Player of the Day went to Carey Poulsen, a great display from a very accomplished player who showed great desire, skill and strength to cap a fine performance wit
16th May: Tech Titans 4, Halswell B 1
Titans started this match hungry for their first win of the season and continued on from the way they finished the previous weeks tie by laying siege upon the opposition goal. Titans produced waves of attacking play, width on both flanks with pinpoint passing
from Joseph Tomkinson attempting to unlock the Halswell defence. With wide midfielders pushing forward goals didn't look far away and with Jake Simpson driving a fine strike in at the near post Titans took a deserved lead. This didn't spur Halswell into action as Tech continued to dominate and what looked like a goal bound strike from birthday boy Jack Lewis was deflected into the path of Rainer Pye who made no mistake from close range. 2-0 Tech.
Tech took the foot off the gas at the end of the first half and allowed Halswell to come back into the game after a fine finish from their striker. Titans started the second half quietly and with sound defending keeping things tight at the back they didn't look likely to increase their lead until the introduction of Jeremy Crossland and Carey Poulsen brought fresh impetus to the match with Crossland finding the back of the net after a scramble in the Halswell penalty area. Amos Taylor finished off the goal scoring with a fine goal after a spin on the edge of the box saw him lose his markers and steer the ball into the net.
A fine effort from Titans and also POTD Sam O'Hara who gave a powerful and committed performance laced with skill and quality. Well done.
9th May: Woolston Technical 1, Waimak A 1
Another home draw leaves the Titans frustrated and still looking for their first win of the season as they failed to punish Waimak despite creating an abundance of chances and dominating the match.
A dynamic display from Jeremy Crossland in CM and another outstanding defensive offering from George Cox saw the Titans take hold of this match against very capable opposition. In the first half some fine goalkeeping kept the scores even as Tech spurned opportunities to finish the tie before half time.
The second half saw Waimak take the lead against the run of play as what looked lie a harmless shot sailed into the netless goal and the river beyond!
Despite this setback Titans regained their composure and continued to press for a deserved goal. With Sam O'Hara putting in a great display at CD the goal looked certain to come as Tech dominated. They were rewarded with a goal from Jake Simpson as he calmly finished off a great cross at the back post after some good work by George Cox on the left wing. Tech finished strongly as Jeremy Crossland powered through tackles in search of the winner but the clock beat them to it.
Player of the Day, Central Midfielder, Jeremy Crossland.
26th April: Woolston Technical 1, Nomads United A 1, Hansens Park
A great start to this game and the season for Titans in this fixture as Amos Taylor finished off a free flowing move in Tech's first attack of the match by slotting a fantastic shot past the helpless Nomads keeper who was caught unaware with the pace and execution of the move.
The inevitable push from the Nomads for a quick reply was weathered brilliantly by some great goalkeeping and stout defending and as Titans grew in confidence they began to exert their dominance in the match. Despite some great chances Titans could not extend their first half lead.
The second half kicked off with Nomads pushing hard for an early strike, and they got the goal they were chasing after an in swinging corner caused confusion in the Titans six yard box. The ball broke to their striker who coolly struck the ball past the in form Chris Atkinson.
The Tech keeper produced some fine saves as his side struggled to maintain the hold in the game they had held so convincingly in the first half. The Titans could have kept all three points at Hansens after they created a great chance for midfielder Rainer Pye after he made a lung busting run into the box, only to watch his strike beat the keeper but slip agonisingly past the post.
That left both teams happy to share the points after a hard fought match in unseasonably warm weather.
Player of the day, Goalkeeper Chris Atkinson.
