Saturday 25th April, RD 4, 1-2 LOSS v Waimak Rovers Linwood Lower Fields
Hugely disappointing result this week. Waimak had turned up without a record of decent results and were close to the bottom of the table and so we seemed to paly the game as if it were a forgone conclusion and a matter of how many goals we could score... a surefire way to lose our way. Our normal passing game gave way to hopeful, long passes and attempts to beat numerous players. Frustration began to bite when the goals didn't eventuate.
We did go a goal up when Christian burst out of defence, beat two players and let loose a 30 yard screamer but we rapidly lost that lead when hesitation indefense let Waimak in for a very soft goal. Not long afterwards a loose ball in midfield wasn't contested and they had their chance to score a 30 yard screamer and suddenly we were 2-1 down.
We did improve a bit but despite our best efforts we couldn't break them down. Steve went closest with a smart shot that was saved and Phil had a chance in the last minute with a header that went just wide.
We missed Ed, Thierry and Justin a lot but there was no excuse for a dismal, grumpy performance and it will be a test of the team's mettle to see if we come back from this to perform better against Avon next Saturday.
Saturday 18th April, RD 3, 2-0 WIN v Tech Green Devils, Linwood Lower Fields
Always a tough game against the Devils. They were 'supposed' to have a weakened team (never believe pre-match talk) but looking around at kick-off I didn't see much weakness.
We shaded the first half without scoring - our defense was outstanding with Andrew H standing out in his new role at full-back. Steve was well shackled by the Devils - they knew he had scored 7 in the previous two games so they double-teamed him out of the game.
Second half we turned the screw a bit and Steve finally scored off a lovely through ball by Caddy - this eased our worries a bit and we pressed our advantage. Glynn in the Devil's goal kept us out with great saves from Maurice and Lorcan but he had no chance when Justin headed into the bottom corner from John K's lovely cross. Very happy with 2-0.
